Thin Client
In its simplest form, a Thin Client is a PC with less of everything.
The only software that is installed on a Thin Client is the user interface, certain frequently used applications and a networked operating system whilst the Thin Client depends primarily on the central server for processing activities.
With limited space being required for applications and data, the Thin Client can be a very small, low-powered device that results in a lower cost per unit.
Thin Client users can expect easier system management and a system that is easier to install and operate, as well as the advantages of networked computing such as central storage / data backup and network security.
Thin Client Benefits
- Extra secure as no application data lives on the client, centralising anti-spyware protection and reducing the risks of physical data theft
- Enhanced data security as the data is stored on the terminal server, not the individual device
- Control software, applications and files centrally
- Lower IT administration costs as thin clients are managed almost entirely at the server
- Lower cost per unit maximises the number of workstations that can be purchased on a budget
- Lower hardware costs
- Less energy consumption reducing energy costs and in some cases, reducing the need for, or upgrade of, air conditioning systems offering a significant cost saving
- Less moving parts mean increased reliability and reduced maintenance costs
- Less network bandwidth required
Infinity has worked with a number of businesses to successfully plan, install and support a Thin Client network.
