Charity Rally is a Steal for Local Bandits
5 people, 2 cars, 2000 Kilometers and £2000 for Charity.
Infinity's adventurer, Matt Hartfield and his "Smokey and the Bandit" themed team, took to the open road for a European charity banger rally all the way to Europe's most westerley point.
Sponsored by Infinity, Matt from Uckfield and his four friends took part in the 2009 Sucata Rally. The money raised from the five day dash from Portsmouth to Portugal is donated to the Gemin-i.org charity that develop innovative web based solutions to improve education in developing and developed countries.
Rules of the race specify that participants must drive cars worth no more than £250, but the resourceful two car team acquired two free (if rather run down) cars and raced past their £2000 target to bring in £2,400.03, all of which goes to the charity.
The two car team donned their fancy dress and crossed the finish line in an N Reg Peugeot 405 nicknamed "Smokey£ and an L Reg Nissan Micra called "The Bandit". Smokey had to be dragged out of a tip and was described by the team as a "dream to behold", coming complete with "mouldy seats, flat tyres and lots of empty food wrappers". Surprisingly, it was their Micra that developed problems along the way, though the tenacious group overcame this using a cable tie "that had to be re-tightened every 100 miles".
Thanks to the help of Infinity as the main sponsor, out of the 66 teams competing this year, the Bandits raised the most money for charity so good work the Bandits!
